Films: Dylan Dog-Dead of Night (2010)

Summary: In the DC Universe, there are many who investigate the supernatural. And as John Constantine has shown us, not all of them necessarily have superpowers. But this is not one of John's troubles. This is the plight of a man with even less luck somehow. A man by the name of Dylan Dog.

History: It is said that the monsters of the world always appoint a chosen mortal to watch over them so that none of the bad apples ruin everything. That mortal is Dylan Dog, a paranormal investigator situated in New Orleans with his partner Marcus. Or at least he was that until his wife was killed by a vampire named Vargas, who did it so that Dylan would kill the other vampires and let him take the place as vampire elder. But alas, like any story beginning with retirement, Dylan is put back into action when Vargas begins gunning for the Heart, an artifact once wielded by vampires that contains the blood needed to summon Belial, an apocalyptic archdemon. With the newly zombified Marcus and a few leads, Dylan is on the case once more.

Final Fate: It is revealed that Vargas was being played by the daughter of one of his victims, and she uses the vamp's body to bring forth Belial with the heart. Thankfully, Dylan and his new werewolf friends, the Cynos wolf clan, take out the demon when the latter tears the evil woman apart, banishing the evil and leaving Vargas wide open to be arrested. With the Heart placed in the werewolves' care, Dylan continues his job with gusto.

Powers/Abilities: Whomever has the Heart can control Belial to some capacity. The archdemon himself is capable of summoning the forces of Hell, and is virtually indestructible. The other creatures can turn from human to monster on a whim, though it's mostly at night.

Weakness: Silver for most monsters, though Belial can only be banished if his summoner is killed.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-Most of the monsters here are actually amicable folk, even the intimidating werewolves. But alas, it is still a world full of ravenous beasts out for human blood, especially where the vampires are concerned. Belial may not have the best CGI has to offer, but he's got a death-metal design if there ever was one. A shame it's so easy to bring him down.

Trivia: -The original Dylan Dog comic was a lot more about deconstructing horror tropes, as well as having a much more dark and black comedy-esque tone. This film was based on no prior story. It's probably why fans hated it.

-Ironically, many have already decided on the more proper Dylan Dog adaptation. And it happens to be 1995's "Cemetery Man", which was also done by Dylan's creator, Tiziano Sclavi. We’re of course talking about a film full of necrophilia and rampant nihilism, but it's good horror stuff in its own right.
